Rebuild Texas Fund
A total of $5 million in funding will support the Rebuild Texas Fund, a collaborative project of the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation and OneStar Foundation. Of this amount, approximately $622,000 will be provided to 11 Boys & Girls Clubs in southeast Texas for both physical repairs and programmatic support. For example, funds were made available to the Jim and Barbara Morefield Boys & Girls Club in Houston’s Sunnyside neighborhood to help supply a new Teen Tech Center. Ambassador Al-Thani visited the Morefield Club in October, 2018.
YMCA
In addition, the YMCA of Greater Houston will receive $1.2 million to build out and furnish a new site for the Cossaboom YMCA, which was damaged beyond repair by Hurricane Harvey. A new site will be constructed in Houston’s East End, a historic and predominantly Hispanic community.
The remainder of the $5 million donation to the Rebuild Texas Fund will go towards scholarship programs in the Greater Houston and southeast Texas areas to support students adversely impacted by Hurricane Harvey
