$426,000 was granted to Target Hunger, in partnership with the Rebuild Texas Fund, which serves low-income and underserved clients with food assistance. Target Hunger’s programs and services aim to address hunger and food insecurity within inner city neighborhoods across Houston’s northeast triangle – an area where more than 30% of people live below the federal poverty line. Target Hunger was located in the Langston Family Life Center for more than 20 years but moved in March 2018 due to the deterioration of the facility and the impact of Hurricane Harvey. These funds will support TH’s purchase of equipment to fully restore and enhance operations in the new leased warehouse site as well as the purchase of a mobile food pantry to bring food closer to clients.
Status: The new warehouse location launched in May 2019 and the mobile food pantry were operational by August 2021. As a result of this grant, Target Hunger helped seven non-profit organizations in their nine zip code service area, supporting approximately 118,500 client visits and serving 45,400 individuals.
100% of funds have been disbursed.
