A $2 million grant was granted to Harris County to fund the construction of four regulation-size youth soccer fields and one practice field at Precinct One’s Blue Ridge Park, which is located just south of the greater Meyerland/Southwest Houston neighborhoods that experienced some of the most significant flooding in Harris County. The fields will be the first development in the Blue Ridge Park area, fulfilling an unmet community need for accessible recreational green space that also serves as a flood control mitigation basin that will help reduce the risk of future flooding events for residents living in the Sims Bayou Watershed.
Status: Construction got underway in January 2021 and was completed in the spring of 2022.
All funds have been disbursed.
“I am extremely grateful that Qatar has been here for our city after we faced one of the greatest challenges in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.”
