$4,988,121 was granted to fund renovation of the historic Blue Triangle Community Center, founded during World War I as central meeting place where women and girls of color could safely learn and recreate. The Center has a long history of providing programs and activities for children and adults, daycare, swimming lessons and other recreation and educational support for Houston’s Third Ward community. The Center also houses a mural by the well-known African- American artist John Biggers. The Blue Triangle building was badly damaged during Harvey. The Qatar Harvey Fund grant will support repairs and renovations to the building and allow the Center to return to its full operational capacity.
Status: The project commenced in July 2019 and was completed in January 2023.
All funds have been disbursed.
