$300,000 was granted to the Lone Star College Foundation, in partnership with the Rebuild Texas Fund, to establish the Qatar Harvey Fund Scholarship Program to assist Lone Star College students still struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Hurricane Harvey devastated large swaths of the LSC service area, which includes North Harris County and Montgomery County. These funds will be used to provide scholarship funds to assist students with unmet needs that jeopardize their enrollment across seven LSC campuses. 600 semester-based scholarships of up to $500 will be awarded to students still recovering from the impact of Hurricane Harvey for the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters.
Status: Project was completed in July 2020 with 356 Qatar Harvey Fund Scholarships awarded for Fall 2019, Spring 2020 and Summer 2020 semesters.
100% of funds have been disbursed.
“We know firsthand the catastrophic damage Hurricane Harvey imposed on our community,” said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC chancellor. “These funds will go a long way to help our students continue on the road to recovery and complete their education.”
