$500,000 was granted to the University of Houston (UH) Foundation, in partnership with the Rebuild Texas Fund, to establish the Qatar Harvey Fund Scholarship program. Hurricane Harvey’s broad destruction along the Gulf Coast significantly impacted students across the UH System. The UH System is comprised of four public universities that serve more than 73,000 students, a large percentage of which are first-generation and/or non-traditional students. Following the storm, a number of students faced financial obstacles in continuing their studies. The Qatar Harvey Fund Scholarship program will allow students who fully or partially withdrew from UH System schools as a result of Hurricane Harvey to re-enroll and continue their studies. An estimated 300 scholarships of up to $5,000 will be awarded to eligible students for the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters.
Status: Project was completed March 2020 with 255 scholarships awarded.
100% of funds have been disbursed.
